Welcome to Skate for Joy!
Death of Herb Kaplan
On June 14, 2008, one of the greats of the skating world, Herb Kaplan, died as the result of a stroke. Skate For Joy is grateful for his guidance and support over the years. He sat on our board of directors for the past two years. In addition, Herb set up the New England Amateur Foundation and used it to support countless skaters over the years. This man was truly a “gentle man” as well as a philanthropist extraordinaire. The funeral was private. Donations in his memory can be made to the New England Amateur Skating Foundation.
Skate For Joy is proud to announce that we completed our 2007-2008 skating season with our first day on ice on 11/15/07 at the Bank of America City Center. We had over 50 children in Session #1 and another great turnout for Session #2. Please email info@skateforjoy.com or call 401-751-4joy to join for the 2008-2009 season. And please read the latest story about Skate for Joy in the Providence Journal: “An ice time had by all!”
Our fifth annual fundraiser “Skating For Health” was held on Friday April 4th, 2008 in the Rotunda Room at Cafe Nuovo. It was a huge success and raised over $30,000. The event featured a cocktail party with heavy hors d’oeuvres, cash bar, silent auction and a live auction featuring Channel 10’s Gene Valicenti. Click here to read all about it.
Honorary Chairpersons for this event were the Honorable and Mrs. Donald L. Carcieri. Co-Chairs were Donna Bokor and Joan Redmond.

We welcomed our new partner for the 2007-2008 skating season -The Paul Cuffee School. We thank our continuing partners, the Fox Point and Bishop McVinney School. In addition to skating, we have introduced a “life skills” portion of the program where a leader from the business community speaks to the children during snack time.
